Shiatsu Treatments for babies, young children and teenagers

Watching your child suffer when you don't know how to help can be excruciating. Shiatsu is a great reliable technique that can assist your child with different problems and symptoms.

Problems like:

  • Difficulties falling or staying asleep
  • Headaches or chronic ear infections
  • Anxiety, depression or anger
  • Motor and coordination problems
  • Social problems with teachers or friends
  • Learning difficulties
  • Teenage self-esteem and communication problems
  • Hormonal problems like acne
  • Overweight

Many times these problems are caused by simple imbalances of the energy or chi in your child’s body. Yael combines Shiatsu with gentle massage to reach into the energy meridian system to open and release blockages, stimulate the immune and hormonal systems, and evoke the power of inner healing so your child can flourish beautifully to full potential.

“I love working with kids - they are so sincere and everything there is still so fresh. So if they have any blockages, they haven’t yet hardened deeply into the body and can be easily removed.  Sessions are designed to be a space where they  feel safe expressing anything that bothers or frightens them, whatever is in their hearts. I accept them completely as they are, so usually they express their difficulties without defensiveness and it’s easy to see where the problem is.”

Babies

Shiatsu is a beautifully gentle way of working with infants in a loving, fun, one-on-one interaction that nourishes the baby's healthy development of mind, body and spirit. Baby Shiatsu restores balance following the birth process, easing the transition to the world outside the womb. Done directly on the skin using oils, it addresses a deeper level than regular baby massage, smoothing the meridian energy lines and releasing blockages with gentle pressure and stretches when needed.

Baby Shiatsu can:

  • Soothe digestion
  • Help with colic and constipation
  • Improve muscle tone and joint function in   preparation for sitting, crawling and walking
  • Promote good sleep
  • Relieve teething pain
  • Enhance health following a challenging birth.

In short, Shiatsu can help your baby relax into a happier nature by balancing all aspects of the body's energy.

Infant sessions last 20 to 40 minutes

Young children

Shiatsu sessions for young children are designed as an enjoyable playtime on a padded floor mat. Specific stretches and rotations are employed along with gentle and supportive pressure.

Shiatsu is helpful for children who suffer from:

  • Headaches
  • Asthma
  • Repeated ear infections
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Social problems with peers and authorities
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Hypersensitivity

Yael also teaches her child clients how to treat themselves if they start experiencing these kinds of symptoms or distress. Having tools to take charge of their health helps them feel more comfortable in their own bodies and promotes their self esteem.

During the treatment, the child is dressed in comfortable, loose clothing to allow free movement. Sessions usually last 30 to 60 minutes (depending on the child's age and condition).

Teenagers

The teenage years can be very challenging and often our children close down, stop sharing with us, and begin to see the world in very black-and-white ways.  Their struggles with self-esteem issues, particularly as they face current cultural ideals, are often the underlying cause of problems like acne and other hormonal disturbances. Yael’s work with teens is geared to helping them open up, find peace in allowing themselves to be who they are, and discover the inner tools they need to thrive.

Shiatsu can help teenagers with:

  • Depression and anger
  • Problems falling asleep
  • Anxiety
  • Headaches
  • Social problems with teachers or peers
  • learning and concentration difficulties,
  • Self-esteem and communication problems,
  • Hormonal problems (like PMS, acne)

Yael educates her child clients how to treat themselves if they start experiencing these kinds of symptoms or distress. Having tools to take charge of their health helps them feel more comfortable in their own bodies, increases selfesteem and improves overall well-being.

If we understand the body at deeper levels, we can touch the lessons which are not learned. Working with the meridians contacts the bud in the flower and reconnects people to the master plan of their development.”  Peter Den Dekker
